Polyurea vs. epoxy, without the jargon.
Cure time, UV stability, hot-tire resistance, cost and lifespan, side by side.
The honest comparison.
| Compare | Polyurea | Polyaspartic | Epoxy | Concrete paint |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cure time | Walk-on in hours; vehicles in about 1 to 2 days | Walk-on in hours; vehicles in about 1 to 2 days | Walk-on in about 12 to 24 hours; vehicles in several days | Often a day or more between coats |
| UV stability | Aromatic polyurea ambers; used under a topcoat | Excellent: stays clear | Poor alone; ambers and chalks | Fades and chalks |
| Hot-tire pickup | Very resistant | Very resistant | Moderate; thin coats can suffer | Poor |
| Flexibility | High | Good | Rigid | Thin film |
| Typical installed cost* | About $5 to $10 per sq ft | About $5 to $12 per sq ft | About $3 to $7 per sq ft | About $1 to $3 per sq ft |

Which one should you choose?
Choose polyurea + polyaspartic
If you want the fastest install, the toughest surface, hot-tire resistance and a floor that will not yellow.
Choose a hybrid
If the slab is rough or the budget is tight but you still want UV stability and a hard, glossy finish.
Choose epoxy with a topcoat
If cost is the priority, the garage is shaded and you can wait a few extra days to park.
Questions, answered
What is the difference between polyurea and polyaspartic?
Polyaspartic is a type of aliphatic polyurea. Both cure fast and are tough. We use polyurea or polyaspartic for the color and flake layers and a UV-stable polyaspartic clear coat on top, so the floor resists hot tires and does not yellow.
How much does a garage floor coating cost?
Published U.S. ranges are roughly $3 to $12 per square foot installed, with epoxy at the low end and polyurea and polyaspartic at the high end. The Cost Estimator on this site gives a planning range; a free assessment gives a firm written price.
Will the coating peel?
Peeling almost always traces back to poor preparation or moisture. We diamond grind every slab, repair it, check moisture and choose a system that suits your garage, which is why our floors are built to stay bonded.
When can I walk and park on the new floor?
Typically you can walk on it the same day. Vehicles usually return in about a day or two, depending on temperature and the system. You get written cure guidance on install day.
Still deciding?
We will look at your slab and recommend the right system, honestly.
