Control Joint Filling
Saw cuts and expansion joints are filled with a semi-rigid filler so dirt, water and tires cannot damage the edges and the floor reads as one seamless surface.
The details, in plain English.
Control joints are cut into slabs to let concrete crack in a straight line instead of a random one. Left open, they collect dirt and water and their edges chip under tires. Coating directly over them risks the film cracking along the joint as the slab moves.
We fill joints with a flexible, semi-rigid joint filler that supports the edges and keeps contaminants out, then coat over the filled joint, or follow the joint with a thin cut in the coating where movement is expected. We will explain which approach suits your slab.

Questions, answered
Should the coating cover the joint?
In garages we usually fill, shave flush and coat over, or add a thin relief cut. Heavily moving joints may be better left filled and visible.
Will the joint crack through the coating?
Sometimes a joint will telegraph a thin line. We design for it and tell you what to expect.
