Diamond Grinding & Surface Prep

The step that decides whether a floor lasts two years or twenty. We diamond grind every slab to open the concrete and remove whatever would stop a bond.

What it is

The details, in plain English.

A coating can only be as strong as its grip on the concrete. Smooth, sealed or contaminated slabs are the number one reason floors peel. A planetary diamond grinder with a shrouded dust collector removes the weak surface layer, sealers and old coatings and leaves an even, open profile for the coating to lock into.

We grind to a profile matched to the coating system, work edges and corners with hand grinders and vacuum the dust before the first coat goes down. Acid etching and light sanding, often used in DIY kits, do not produce the same profile and are not a substitute.

Best for

  • Every new floor coating
  • Slabs with sealers or old paint
  • Smooth power-troweled concrete
  • Floors that previously failed
Why it works

What you get with this service.

01

Real mechanical profile

Grinding opens the pores so the coating can anchor.

02

Dust-controlled

HEPA-style vacuum shrouds keep dust out of your home.

03

Edges and corners

Hand grinders cover the places machines cannot reach.

04

Better than etching

Acid etch leaves an uneven, shallow profile.

Good questions

Questions, answered

Why not just acid etch?

Etching is inconsistent, can leave residue and rarely achieves the profile polyurea and polyaspartic systems need. Grinding is the professional standard.

Will grinding make a mess in my house?

We use shrouded grinders connected to dust collectors and keep the house door sealed. Some fine dust is possible, so we cover items nearby.
